The custom Master Chief Transformer we wrote about last year? It's so last year. There's a new green custom 'bot on the (auction) block, and it -- quite fittingly -- becomes a Warthog in vehicle mode. Its creator (and eBayer) built the 5 and 1/4" tall marvel out of a McFarlane Toys Master Chief figure, an Actionclix Warthog and an actual Transformers toy (Hound, in case you're wondering).
Embedded after the break is violent new footage from IGN of Resident Evil 5's zombie'riffic Mercenaries mode. It's a special timed survival mode that's unlocked after RE5's main story is completed and pretty much boils down to staying alive for the duration of the round, while scoring points per infected killed. Those who know their franchise history should remember Mercenaries mode from Resident Evil 4.
IGN has an interview with Paul Gadbois, producer on Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, the franchise-milking upcoming compilation of what Activision has determined are the most popular songs from every console GH title to date. Canadian development studio and port-expert, Beenox, is putting together the disc, which hits 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii in June. (It's confirmed at $60 for the 360/PS3 release, $40 on Wii and $30 on PS2.) According to Gadbois, this mash-up of previous Guitar Hero games will offer full band play on all 48 of its included (master) tracks, while also including the music studio, character creation, and online features introduced in Guitar Hero World Tour. Last week's announcement that Japan-based Square Enix was going to try to buy UK-based Eidos had a bit of a hurdle to clear: the fact that Time Warner owns about 20 percent of Eidos' stock. Today Gamasutra reports that Square Enix has reportedly gotten approval from Time Warner to proceed with their plans to acquire Eidos.
